If you do not have an identity number, please select I have no identity number and enter your date of birth instead of the identity number.

When choosing the school before you have received a student number, you must provide a certificate of being accepted into Aalto University as an attachment.

Domo system does not support hotmail email address, so AYY recommends using for example the aalto.fi email.

Why do we ask about gender?

We ask about gender because some shared room apartments are only offered to representatives of a single gender at a time. If you don't wish to disclose your gender or generally want to apply only to unisex shared room apartments, please choose the third option. Please note that this means that we can't offer you an apartment from any of the shared room apartments that are reserved only for a single gender at a time!

Income and wealth

Income

Please mark your monthly gross income in the housing application. We will consider income information during the tenant selection process. Gross income refers to earnings that have not been deducted for any expenses, such as taxes. Gross income includes not only earned income but also capital income. Capital income, such as rental income or dividends, can be found in your tax decision. If your earned income varies monthly, calculate your monthly income based on the earned income for the current year and record it on the application.

Income to be considered includes earned and capital income:
- Salary
- Salary supplements such as overtime pay, shift differentials, bonuses, etc.
- Pensions
- Income from abroad
- Rental, interest, and dividend income
- Alimony received from a spouse
- Adult education allowance and vocational training support
- Taxable value of fringe benefits
- Unemployment allowance
- Labor market support

For individuals on parental, care, or family leave, the income considered is the monthly income you had before leaving your job. If parental leave and care leave have lasted for more than a year, the income can be calculated as the average of the previous 12 months. If income varies monthly, the income considered is the average of the previous 12 months.

The following benefits are not counted as income:
- Housing allowance
- Social assistance
- Study grants (except for adult education allowance, which is counted as income)
- National Pension Act child increase and child pension, a work-related child pension paid as a child pension, benefits under the Accident Insurance Act and the legislation on motor insurance, or other statutory child pension or equivalent benefits paid from abroad
- Alimony or child support
- Child benefit
- Disability Allowance
- Front-line soldier's pension, front-line supplement
- Compensation under the Military Injuries Act
- Maintenance allowance according to the Act on Public Employment and Economic Support or equivalent maintenance allowance

Clearly temporary income, such as conscripts' daily allowance, military assistance, and income for school-age children under 18, is not taken into account.

Wealth

Assets to be considered include the wealth you have at the time of application as well as any wealth that you have disposed of by selling or gifting it in the year before the application. Earned income is not counted as wealth. Wealth includes items such as housing company shares, real estate, funds, securities, and other assets. When determining wealth, we consider the debts that affect the applicant household's wealth, such as the remaining home loan. When moving to the Helsinki metropolitan area from elsewhere in Finland due to work, owner-occupied housing located over 80 km from Helsinki and where the applicant resides is not considered as wealth. An investment property owned by the applicant is always considered when assessing wealth.
